One of the best poker players of all time has announced today that he will not play in this year’s World Series of Poker. Phil Ivey has suit in Las Vegas electronically today against Tiltware, the software and marketing firm for Full Tilt Poker. Full Tilt was one of three online gambling sites including PokerStars and Absolute Poker that were shut down by the FBI in April 2011. Players were not been able to retrieve their funds from the online poker sites during the shutdown. 11 people were indicted on charges they knowingly tricked banks into illegally processing payments for gambling in the crackdown.
Full Tilt and PokerStars have reached agreements to reopen to let their players withdraw their money. PokerStars has reportedly paid it’s players back but the Full Tilt players have not been so lucky.
In a Statement released by Phil Ivey on PhilIvey.com he says:
“For many years, I have been proud to call myself a poker player. This great sport has taken me to places I only imagined going and I have been blessed with much success. It is therefore with deep regret that I believe I am compelled to release the following statement.
I am deeply disappointed and embarrassed that Full Tilt players have not been paid money they are owed. I am equally embarrassed that as a result many players cannot compete in tournaments and have suffered economic harm. I am not playing in the World Series of Poker as I do not believe it is fair that I compete when others cannot. I am doing everything I can to seek a solution to the problem as quickly as possible.
My name and reputation have been dragged through the mud, through the inactivity and indecision of others and on behalf of all poker players I refuse to remain silent any longer. I have electronically filed a lawsuit against Tiltware related to the unsettled player accounts. As I am sure the public can imagine, this was not an easy decision for me.
I wholeheartedly refuse to accept non-action as to repayment of players funds and I am angered that people who have supported me throughout my career have been treated so poorly.
I sincerely hope this statement will ignite those capable of resolving the problems into immediate action and would like to clarify that until a solution is reached that cements the security of all players, both US and International, I will, as I have for the last six weeks, dedicate the entirety of my time and efforts to finding a solution for those who have been wronged by the painfully slow process of repayment.”

Meeting people and becoming friends isn’t like it used to be. While there are still chance meet ups and introductions by friends, more people are meeting online first. Whether it be for dating, business, or mutual fan bases, social media is connecting people in their home towns and across the world.
Kevin Phelan, Vice President at Gutenberg Communications, says technology has “accelerated” relationships.
Typically, he says, you see someone once a year at a conference, or you’re busy with your own life and don’t keep in touch with acquaintances. But with social media “you can keep a daily pulse of what’s going on. You can sit around the country and watch a game together. Then when you meet them in person, you all come together like you’ve never been apart.”
“I think it’s phenomenal to not lose touch and you’re eliminating the distance gap that a lot of people have,” he added.
Cait Downey of HubSpot agrees saying that online and offline relationships can run parallel. “It’s most magical when both lives overlap,” she said.
Downey says someone may have 1,000 friends on Facebook, and they may not have 1,000 friends in real life, but valuable information is still shared. With online relationships, she says, it’s easier to have conversations without interrupting people’s lives. “Phone calls can take blocks out of a day, but a tweet, text of Facebook message can quickly get a message across.”
Rich Brooks, president of flyte new media, says although this sharing of thoughts and ideas may seem foreign since it’s online rather than in person, it is still a relationship.
Brooks adds, “It’s not a relationship if it’s one-way; that’s called stalking.”

It’s not breaking news that Al Qaeda is using social media management to communicate and influence it’s followers. Officials are now warning that terrorists and criminals are stealing personal information using the death of Osama bin Laden.
With many version of the Osama Virus appearing including on Facebook be careful of unsolicited emails that include attachments like videos and photos involving the worlds most infamous terrorist. The US Government has decided not to release the photos of the dead terrorist citing safety of the troops and as far as I can tell their have been no leaks of the actual photos.
The content in these malicious emails could include cyber attacks from shutting down your computer to stealing things stored on a computer, like Social Security numbers, credit card and bank numbers, and usernames and passwords.
Don’t become a victim of these terrorist Cyber Attacks. Fraudulent messages often include misspellings, poor grammar and nonstandard English. Use virus protection software that updates daily and say never to agree to download software to view videos.

The success of a company is largely dependent on it’s marketing strategy. Your companies marketing strategy can make the difference between being a small company or a recognized worldwide brand. These strategies have changed vastly over the years. Before the age of the internet, TV and radio were the most effective ways to advertise your business. These days using social networking is a very effective way to reach and interact your consumers. Social media marketing is fast becoming the preferred method of targeted advertising.
Let’s say you own a construction company and want to promote yourself to new customers. One of the most effective ways to reach your consumer is through social media marketing. Using Social Media to market your company exposes your product to millions of internet users worldwide. Using social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Digg are cost effective way to gain new clients
The success of marketing with social media is evident when people perform a Google Search (or Bing, Yahoo, ect) for a specific keyword. If a person is looking for a promotional modeling agency they may search for “promotional modeling agency” or “promotional models” to find an agency that fits their needs. The sites that are most relevant and have the highest web traffic show up on the first page of the search results and therefore get the most clicks and most sales opportunities.
Start using social networks to achieve your targeted advertising goals.

Ricky Cisco, 25, right, talks about his decision to donate one of his kidneys to Jeff Kurze, center, seated with wife Roxy, at the Beaumont Hospital Heart Center Conference in Royal Oak, Mich. Facing a three-to-five-year wait for a kidney, the couple turned to Facebook. (Clarence Tabb Jr. / Detroit News / Associated Press / April 4, 2011)
Perhaps anything is possible with social media — but even so, this story caught me off guard: A man donated his kidney to a stranger after seeing a plea on Facebook.
Jeff Kurze’s kidneys were failing, according to the story. His wife, Roxy, posted on her wall in desperation:
“Wishing a kidney would fall out of the sky so my husband can stop suffering,” the 30-year-old Web designer wrote. “So if anyone knows of a live donor with type O blood, PLEASE let me know.”
Ricky Cisco, a 25-year-old comedian, saw the post and messaged Roxy, saying he wanted to help. Even though the two were nearly complete strangers, they were Facebook friends (having met once through work).
The rest, as they say, was surgery. But it raises an interesting question: Are people more likely to be philanthropic through Facebook and other social media? Plenty of charities have banked on the theory — but if there’s any power in it, it may come from a more general idea not limited to the Internet: the theory that people are more likely to be generous in social networks of all kinds, from family to clubs to religious organizations.
Robert Putnam, author of “Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community,” would probably agree. The Harvard University professor compared Americans’ charitable tendencies to their social connectedness, and found that they matched up pretty well.
In this paper, he writes, “By far the best predictor of philanthropy, for example, is not how much money you have, but how many clubs you go to or how often you go to church. There is a very strong affinity between social connectedness and altruism.”
Does this mean you should be expanding your social networks — including friending everyone you ever meet in case you ever need a replacement organ? That might be going a bit far. But it’s an interesting note to how our interconnectedness through the Internet might shape our motivations just as much as our “real” social networks do.

With mega sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin social networking has never been bigger. These websites are not only changing the way we communicate with each other, but also changing the way we live our lives. If you own a smartphone chances are your most used applications are going to be one of the three listed above.
But isn’t it kind of a hassle on your smartphone? I mean, on a computer you can open up multiple tabs to keep track of what’s going on within your internet life. On your smartphone it isn’t quite that easy. Even with background processing it can be a pain if you want to post one thing to all of your favorite social networking accounts. That is where the app “Stroodle” comes in.
Stroodle is an app developed by Frinzer that brings you the ability to connect your Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin accounts all in one app. Gone are the days of multiple walls and feeds. Stroodle takes all three timelines and creates a universal timeline that indicates which social networking site it was posted from. Not only that but it goes the same for posting as well. You can post one single tweet or status update and it will automatically be sent to all 3. Don’t worry though, you have the ability when writing your post to determine if you want to only post it to specific ones.
So how is it you ask?
Stroodle delivers exactly what it promises… except it doesn’t quite live up to it’s true potential. Yes, you get a nice unified timeline. Yes, you can post from a single app. But something is just…wrong.
First and foremost the app is free. That’s a good thing right? Well honestly this time around it really isn’t. Firstly, be aware that you are going to have numerous ads all over your timeline (like the one pictured here). It even forces you to make your first post specifically about their app. That’s right, after you spend a few minutes connecting your social sites it actually forces you to make a post about THEM before you can actually go on and post something relevent.
It’s not like you can’t just go back and delete those ad posts, or pay $1 to go ad free, but it’s something that would’ve been nice to forgo altogether. The other thing Stroodle kind of missed on was profiles themselves. If you want to visit your profile or that of your friends you’ll have to exit Stroodle to go back into the native app of your social network of choice. While that doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, after a few days I was already tired of the extra work.
Lastly, the app is SLOOOOOOW. It comes as no surprise that the app would be slow since it’s gathering a ton of information from everywhere, but it’s REALLY slow.
Final Verdict:
Stroodle is a good app, but it’s just not a great app. While it delivers in some aspects I couldn’t help but want more out of it when using it. Frinzer took a step in the right direction but unless they improve what they started, someone will make a better app very soon. I can guarantee it.

So I just signed up for Google’s +1 experiment. Have you heard about it? It’s basically another way Google is trying to compete with Facebook. If you have a Google account, you can click on the “+1” box next to your search results if you like the result. Here is what Google has to say:
Use +1 to give something your public stamp of approval, so friends, contacts, and others can find the best stuff when they search. Get recommendations for the things that interest you, right when you want them, in your search results. Your +1′s are public. They can appear in Google search results, on ads, and sites across the web. You’ll always be able to see your own +1′s in a new tab on your Google Profile, and if you want, you can share this tab with the world.
The +1 button is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”
Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.
Sometimes it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for when someone you know already found it. Get recommendations for the things that interest you, right when you want them, in your search results.
The next time you’re trying to remember that bed and breakfast your buddy was raving about, or find a great charity to support, a +1 could help you out. Just make sure you’re signed in to your Google Account.
Check it out and let me know what you think. At the very least we have a new catch phrase: “You just ‘+1′d’ this.”

Social Websites Aggregator- A Mobile Application Prototype (Vadakumacherry) Social Media Manager
As part of my School project, myself and three other students were involved in prototyping and testing a mobile application called SyncUp. It allows the social networking user to organize and manage communications from friends, family members, business associates and other contacts who are members of Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare and Flickr. SyncUp allows you to sync friend lists with your phone’s contact list in order to call and text directly from the app.
With SyncUp, you are able to stay in touch with friends, family and other contacts. From the college student, to the overworked mom, to those on the go, SyncUp will provide a comprehensive, time efficient experience on your mobile phone that will keep you connected with the latest updates from family, friends, business associates and the world.
REQUIREMENT GATHERING PHASE
- We used two different requirements gathering methods, interviews and an online survey, to accomplish our research. The purpose of both of these methods was to gather information from potential users regarding their mobile and social media use.
- Based on the user requirements, we developed personas to communicate information about the end-users.
- We also conducted competitive analysis to identify the current trends and anticipate the future needs. the analysis was performed on two mobile applications-8Hands Mobile and Bebo.
CONCEPTUAL MODELING PHASE
Our process in developing the models included first determining the usability goals, identifying the desired features of the application, developing the use cases and creating design mockups. Group analysis of the conceptual models assisted in identifying any design flaws or potential usability issues and for offering suggestions and improvements.an image of the Conceptual Model is shown below
WIREFRAMING PHASE
We then prepared wireframes for the same.A wireframe of one of the screens is shown below

PROTOTYPING PHASE
Based on conceptual model and wireframes we created prototypes
USABILITY TESTING PHASE
In this phase our goal was to test our prototypes with a certain set of users, modify our prototypes based on participant feedback and then retest using the same participants to evaluate their user experience and the effectiveness of our improved designs. We employed think-aloud protocol. The prototypes presented to the user were low fidelity prototypes and were presented to the user in printed form. We included a prioritized list of problems and their respective solutions. In addition, we included observations noted during our test and revised screen shots of our prototype.
