Importance of Social Media Marketing and SEO EmmeGirls Networking Fools Interview

Last November Emme Porter and Bruce Porter Jr of EmmeGirls LLC and Social Networks Manager™ sat down and did a phone interview with the Networking Fools. Here are some of the video highlights on the topic of social media marketing and search engine optimization from that interview:

Emme Porter, Bruce Porter Jr owners of EmmeGirls LLC, DC Party Rentals, Social Networks Manager +1 202 436 5114

Bruce Porter Jr:  Hi beautiful, what are we doing today?

Emme Porter: We’re doing the Networking Fools interview.

Emme Porter: Also what Bruce is doing, is buying this virtual real estate on the internet, and using it. So I think he would also like to promote his techniques with SEO and the Social Networks Manager™, which is really where his talent and passion is.

Bruce Porter Jr: ..and how it all integrates.  You know we have the reality TV show, and of course we want the reality TV show to be a great hit, but realistically, if what we do it use it to brand our clients then it serves it’s purpose.  So we want to use all these different methods of media in order to brand ourselves and our clients. Because keep in mind that the branding and publicity is very important to us, not only for getting new clients, but also getting new models. We have thousands of models on staff and it takes a lot of SEO to get them in here.

Here are some of the video highlights on the topic of social media marketing and search engine optimization from that interview +1 202 436 5114

Bruce Porter Jr: (speaking about Sports Buzz) ..for companies like them that have an android and Iphone app, marketing companies like us are very attractive.   We not only staff the models for you, but we also promote you and get you in there on the first page of Google. If you Google “Sports Buzz Launch Event DC” of course you will see us, and the picture are filed and everything.

Emme Porter: He works tirelessly. How Bruce likes to describe the internet is that it’s alive, and so it’s a constant thing you have to work on all the time because it’s like a living breathing animal.

Bruce Porter Jr: SEO is one of those things that sometimes you’re really not sure why this happened or that happened. You just have to do so many things to get the results that you want. It’s a learning process. You know we’ve made mistakes too.  Even a few months ago we made a big mistake and then you realize that is how that works and you have to work overtime to make up lost ground, but it is very effective… To go back to using the models, we take our models that are nationwide and do promotions, that is our business model. Then we use those models to promote ourselves and our clients. That is why when you Google us there are so many results and of course the name of the game is back links.

Emme Porter: Now that we have grown and are national company people use Google or Bing and they search for promotional models or trade show models and whoever is relevant is who the call first.

Bruce Porter Jr: As you know there is a huge difference if you appear on the first page of Google. It didn’t start off that way for us, there are a lot of companies out there who think they have the best promotional modelsor they are the best agency. People have been staffing models for years. It took a while to get there but we are now on the first page of Google for most of our key terms. That keeps the phone ringing and while word of mouth advertising is good, when large corporations hire promotional models, chances are they are going to hop on the internet and Google it, and call the first few people they see.

Facebook Me – Social Media Marketing by Social Networks Manager +1 202 436 6577

Social media has greatly changed communication over the past few years. Instead of saying, “Call me!”, a more common phrase these days is “Facebook me!” Likewise, more people are getting their news from the internet rather than the newspaper. In fact Facebook is the information source of choice for the “technology generation”. Even when conducting a search on Facebook you get internet Search results at the bottom of the page as well. So when you decide to sell your house, why not use websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and LinkedIn to help reach buyers?

These social networking websites provide a valuable resource to sellers. Through Facebook, you can list your house and promote the listing with Facebook advertising. You can also share the posting with your friends, post pictures, videos, and notes highlighting the positive aspects of your house utilizing viral marketing for your listing.

Similarly, on Twitter, you can publish the listing via a tweet  informing millions of potential buyers about the price and location of your house with a single click. You can further utilize viral marketing with your Tweets by including some of your favorite and most interesting facts about the house. You can target a specific areas and advertise your open house with times and dates.

LinkedIn is a social network for business professionals that also supports paid advertising. You can list your house on the linkedin advertising network and pay only for the clicks that you receive. You can also post the listing on your Linkedin status, share with your connections and email your linkedin contacts about the listing. If you have your house listed on the MLS directory you can also post that listing to your Linkedin account.

With Youtube you can actually let interested buyers take a 360 virtual tour of your house.  You can highlight the best features of your house increasing the opportunity for a sale. Sharing the Youtube video on all four of these networks will help you appear in Google search results.

These sites can be especially useful when targeting young buyers. As the “technology generation” grows up, more people are turning to their favorite social network to help them find information, including looking for places to live. If your house is listed on the social network that your potential buyers are using, then you widen your advertising reach, and therefore increase your chances of selling your house in a reasonable time frame.

Trending Topics: Why don’t we value the NHL regular season? (Social Media Management 202 436 6577)

Stanley Cup

Stanley Cup

Trending Topics is a new column that looks at the week in hockey according to Twitter. If you’re only going to comment to say how stupid Twitter is, why not just go have a good cry for the slow, sad death of your dear internet instead?

The Vancouver Canucks have now officially been the best team in hockey, since the beginning of October right up until today.

They have the Presidents’ Trophy all sewn up, and, barring a horrific collapse on their part, plus a huge turnaround by the Philadelphia Flyers, they will likely win it by a healthy margin.

However, as everyone on the planet is quick to point out, Presidents’ Trophy winners don’t traditionally win the Stanley Cup. Since they started handing out the formal trophy in 1985-86, the team with the most points in the regular season has won the Cup just seven times, and the 2007-08 Red Wings are the only ones to do so since the lockout.

So when teams like the Canucks or the Washington Capitals before them — those with playoff histories that are spotty at best — do go out from and lay waste to nearly every team from October through April, people just laugh. They’ll say that this is in no way indicative of how good the Canucks are as a team. Not really. Because: They Haven’t Won The Cup.

Even people like the wonderful Tom Benjamin, who believe winning the Presidents’ Trophy is remarkable thing that should be celebrated, say that in the same breath as they note it’s not the “big prize.” And what sense does that make?

There’s this illogic in North America that places the importance of a season not on the 82-game, six-month slog of a schedule, but rather on a 28-game-at-most, needlessly drawn out crapshoot of a lottery. One which rewards luck rather than an ability to win, a lot, for more than half a year.

I’m not sure what it is that makes people think the playoffs are so much more important than the regular season.

(Coming Up: Disgusting taunts against Theo Fleury(notes) on Twitter; Where is TJ Oshie(notes)?; and your Pearls of BizNasty.)

What little I know of baseball history indicates to me that the World Series, the oldest postseason tournament in North America, was little more than a way to make money and determine whether the winner of two totally separate leagues  — the regular season champions, in fact — was better.

That the Stanley Cup, or really any postseason trophy, has taken on this level of import is curious, given what it takes to win it: a winning percentage as low as .571, or about a 94-point regular season pace. Boy if that doesn’t scream excellence, nothing does.

This concept that the real teams are separated from the pretenders during the postseason is of course ridiculous. You know that. There’s never been a conversation about a mediocre playoff team with a good goalie where you haven’t said, “…but he could steal a series.”

“Steal” being the operative word, as it implies that the series and indeed the playoffs themselves rightfully belong to the league’s best teams at their core.

And players with amazing regular-season numbers but so-so playoff stats? Chokers. Joe Thornton(notes) is a choker. Can’t possibly be one of the best players on the planet. That makes sense. Because Proven Playoff Warriors like Pavel Datsyuk(notes) or Bill Guerin(notes) have never had stretches of seven or 10 games in their career where they weren’t particularly effective.

Oddly, people actually also say — and, I guess, fully believe — that Alex Ovechkin(notes) is a choker, despite his having more points per postseason game than anyone currently in the NHL and scoring more than he does in the regular season. It probably has something to do with his inability to also be both defensemen and the goalie as well as a ruinous and highly productive sniper.

And don’t get me wrong, I love the playoffs for all the drama that the ping-pong-ball probability brings. But the value placed on them, rather than the regular season, seems far too great to be reasonable. Winning in the playoffs isn’t everything. In fact, it’s occasionally a complete fluke. You don’t get Edmonton/Carolina Cup Finals otherwise.

Yeah, winning the Stanley Cup is a pretty cool accomplishment, and one that should obviously be celebrated to some extent. But to also denigrate beating the hell out of everyone you play for 82 games? That’s just stupid. Because winning the Presidents’ Trophy is a more impressive achievement.

Canucks fans prove the worst people in the universe

Speaking of trashing the Presidents’ Trophy winner as being unable to compete in the playoffs, Theo Fleury recently hopped on Twitter and asked his followers if they thought the Canucks can make it out of the first round (and of course they can) because he’s not sold on Roberto Luongo(notes).

Maybe a bit of trolling of Vancouver fans, but you’d think no harm, no foul, right?

Wrong. Apparently this is the type of thing that really brings the mouthbreathers out of the woodwork. So offended were Vancouverites that Fleury had the temerity to suggest the Canucks or Luongo were not infallible that things got really ugly, really fast.

For making this statement, Fleury was taunted by some of the most vile human beings on earth for his substance abuse problems and, worse, the sexual abuse in his past. Fortunately, these cretinous embarrassments were shouted down fairly quickly, and certainly do not represent the entire fanbase, but some people are the absolute worst.

How remarkably vile.

Pearls of Biz-dom

We all know that there isn’t a better Twitter account out there than that of Paul Bissonnette(notes). So why not find his best bit of advice on love, life and lappers from the last week?

With its $350 million budget each year,  Procter and Gamble is one of the world’s biggest  spenders in market research. But changes are on the way – largely down to social media, according to  Joan Lewis, the company’s global consumer and market knowledge officer.  With Facebook and its peers continuing to soar, she expects actual surveys to dramatically decline in importance by 2020 .

Lewis was speaking  in a panel discussion on “How Market Research Must Change” at the Advertising Research Foundation’s Re: Think 2011 conference in New York . She developed her theme in an interview after the discussion.

The research industry, she said,  had to get away from “believing a method, particularly survey research, will be the solution to anything. We need to be methodology agnostic.”

Social media listening isn’t only replacing some survey research – but also making it harder to do by changing consumer behaviour and expectations, Ms. Lewis said in an interview with AdAge after the panel.

“The more people see two-way engagement and being able to interact with people all over the world, I think the less they want to be involved in structured research,” she said. “If I have something to say to that company now, there are lots of ways to say it.”

She suggested that researchers focused too much on process, details of validation and treating methods “like ideologies.”

“We are all brought into the research industry with the almost dogmatic belief that representation is everything,” She did not however rule out having samples representative of a population for some research.

“But we need to get away from the notion that being representative of something is the only way to learn,” she said. “I still hear people say, ‘That social-media thing, that’s not really going to pan out.’ We will learn enormously whether [social-media samples are] representative or not.”

She said P&G will carry on doing  survey research for years, even though she expects it to become less important.

“When we’re doing it, we need to do it well. It’s really been easy for people to take the idea that the world is changing as an excuse to do really poor work. And there’s no excuse.”

Ms. Lewis said  researchers needed to move beyond a “comfort level” in being advisers to “having something on the line” alongside other decision-makers in organisations. Research needed to move beyond measuring things like market share to finding indicators that project when and how the market  should move. More scenario planning was also called for .

Joe Tripodi, chief marketing and commercial officer of Coca-Cola  said social-media and engagement analytics aren’t “at the level of sophistication we need them to be.” He supported efforts to develop standards around measurement and calibration in those areas.

Eric Salama, chairman of WPP’s Kantar said the value they generated wasn’t just from field work, but from looking across multiple projects.  Mr. Salama advocated  a value-based compensation model.

Mr. Tripodi said Coca-Cola  adopted such a  model for ad agencies two years ago, and welcomed applying value-based compensation to research firms — provided they give value.

“I would gladly pay a lot more money to our agency partners in the research area if they delivered for us that game-changing insight. Where do I sign up?” he asked.

The meeting in New York was the ARF’s 75th anniversary event

Why your social graph should be bigger (not smaller) (via Information Maven: Greg Meyer)

Map of Top 50 UK PR people and followers (via flickr.com/photos/porternovelli)

I meet a lot of people who are interested in segmenting their social graphs — keeping Facebook for friends, Twitter for fun, and keeping business contacts, well, focused on business — and they are missing something.

It’s Too Hard

It’s really hard today to remember how you met someone when co-workers can friend you on Facebook, people you meet at a conference can connect to you on LinkedIn, and any number of people can find you on Twitter. I fully respect the need of some to separate out their lives so that they can maintain separation between the areas of their life, and my opinion is that spending time filtering and segmenting your social graph takes away from the very benefits that happen when your social graph is bigger.

Make Friends and Influence People (classic advice, still applicable today)

I think there are two specific benefits to increasing the size of your social graph: … Read More

Getting To Know Your Fellow Red Rockers: an Interview with Emme Porter

Author’s Note: Now that I am in my 4th year covering the Capitals here at www.hockeybuzz.com, I thought it would be a nice change of pace to get in touch with some of those faithful Red Rockers. Of course, I speak of Caps fans, and from time to time throughout the season I will be bringing you interviews with a variety of friends, partners and fans of the Washington Capitals.

First up in “Getting To Know Your Fellow Red Rockers” are Emme Porter and Bruce Porter Jr. of EmmeGirls Elite Model Staffing

Without further ado, here’s my interview with Emme and Bruce:

SH: What is your connection to hockey?

Emme Porter: We have many connections to hockey. First and most obvious is that I am a Red Rocker. Bruce Porter Jr, my husband and business partner, was a division I prep school hockey player. We are both competitive Ice Dancers and will be competing together at International Ice dancing championships all over Europe this year. We both coach skating at the Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington VA, the training facility for the Washington Capitals. My Russian step-father is an Olympic skating coach and also an avid hockey player…so skating and hockey roots run deep in our family. Actually my brother-in-laws family owns one of the largest ice rink Olympic training facilities in CT….we are a skating family!

SH: How did you come to be involved with the Washington Capitals?

EP: I am a coach at Kettler Capitals IcePlex and the skating Director at the time recommended that I audition to be one of the Red Rockers, apparently they were looking for skaters to be part of the team. I was actually interviewed and asked to be profiled through the audition process, I made it and officially became the first Red Rocker!

Emme Porter

Emme Porter

SH: What events have you participated in with the Capitals?

EP: I have participated as a Red Rocker at countless events over the past three years entertaining, dancing and cheering with the squad. Some of the most memorable events are the Sneaker Ball, the EKS Fun Run and Walk and of course the Capitals Convention.

SH: How was the Capitals season opener?

EP: The Capital’s season home opener is always one of my favorite games of the year. The buzz and energy in the Verizon Center rushes through the veins of every fan. The game this year was great, very physical and we totally dominated. There was an unforgettable moment when Alex Ovechkin took his penalty shot and every fan was on their feet. The moment the puck hit the net completely changed the momentum of the game and the Capitals went on to dominate 7-2 for the final.

SH: What is EmmeGirls?

EP: EmmeGirls is a national promotional marketing agency headquartered in Washington, DC. We staff elite models for various events including, trade show models, spokesmodels, producing in-game entertainment at sporting events, runway fashion shows, hot promotional models and dancers from DC to Las Vegas.

Bruce Porter, Jr: EmmeGirls represents a new breed of hybrid marketing agency that uses smart, beautiful models in viral grass roots advertising campaigns and the management of social media through networks, search engine optimization, and clever marketing techniques to create the social buzz for advertising and branding.

SH: Besides Emme being a Red Rocker for the Caps what other sports teams do you work with?

EP: I have personally also cheered for the Washington Castles World Team Tennis, Bruce actually asked me to marry him at the Championship match(Washington Post Article)!

Emme Porter, Bruce Porter Jr Marriage Proposal at the World Team Tennis Championship - Photo from the Washington Post

EmmeGirls is a sponsor of the Military Bowl and we are responsible for staffing their in-game entertainment at the bowl as well as their grassroots marketing campaigns.

SH: What about work outside of the realm of sports?

EP: I am always very busy. EmmeGirls demands a lot of my time, managing the thousands of models needed to be a nationwide model staffing agency is exhausting! Bruce handles the marketing and SEO so that the business keeps coming in. We’re excited about the future.

SH: What are you looking forward to this year?

EP: I am looking forward to ice dancing competitively at international competitions all over Europe and launching and producing our reality tv show Bella Vita. Bella Vita TV is a reality show that features the triumphs, trials and tribulations of our hectic busy lives. It profiles our business with EmmeGirls, our lives as husband and wife, our new role as parents raising our beautiful daughter Bella, training to compete as ice dancers on the international stage, my professional cheerleading career and of course our many beautiful models.

SH: Will you be doing more sporting events in D.C. ?

EP: EmmeGirls loves all types of events, especially sporting events! We will continue to staff and produce shows, entertainment and viewing parties in DC and across the United States. This year we are looking forward to branching into branding an entertainment team for the Capital Polo Club.

SH: Finally, who’s your favorite player on the Caps?

EP: It is very hard to pick just one, we have such and amazing team. I continue to be impressed by Alex Ovechkin, he is such a natural raw player. All great players get their Stanley Cup and I’m sure he will too. I’ll be there to cheer him and the rest of the team on, one way or the other!

I would just like to say thank you to both Emme and Bruce for doing the interview, it was a great pleasure and be sure to check them out if you’re in need of some lovely ladies for any of your upcoming events.

Capitals Rally to Victory at 2011 NHL Winter Classic Heinz Field Pittsburgh (via EmmeGirls Blog)

Heinz Field NHL Winter Classic - Photo credit: Megan Herod

It was not the most picturesque of days, it was not the Winter Classic of 2010 in beautiful Boston with the ultimate outdoor weather conditions for a nostalgic outdoor game. It was raining, dreary, a wet, raw Pittsburgh day for the perfect match-up of one of the best games in hockey history. Over 68,000 hockey fans converged at the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. The media surrounding the NHL’s crown jewel annual event has been unprecedented this year. The Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins won over the attention of America with an HBO reality show series, 24/7. The four part mini series took hockey fans old and new on a journey following the two teams, from the inside with a behind the scenes view of the months leading up to the most successful sporting event of the year, the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. HBO’s reality TV series offered a backstage pass to the coaches and players lives and showed the differences in the philosophies of the two teams.

This is the fourth year the NHL has hosted a Winter Classic game on New Years Day and the second year that the Penguins have played in the mega match-up since 2008. What made the 2011 NHL Winter Classic so dynamic was the matchup between the two teams, who are such long time rivals they didin’t even shake hands after yesterdays game. To make things even more interesting, there was stark differences and drama in each of the teams in the month leading up to the event. The Pittsburgh Penguins, led by Olympic gold medal and Stanly Cup winning forward Sidney Crosby, won 18 of the last 20 games leading up to the Classic. The Capitals didn’t win a game from Dec 3rd to Dec 19th until they finally broke an eight game losing streak in Ottawa when they beat the senators 3-2. The Capitals regained their composure and added momentum in the next week and a half putting them in good position, they won 4 out of the next 5 games. Ironically the one loss they faced was to Pittsburgh, at the Verizon Center, in a nail bitting shootout.

Eric Fehr rejoices after scoring his second goal to lead the Capitals to a 3-1 victory at the 2011 NHL Winter Classic - Photo credit: Gregory Shamus

The Winter Classic was delayed due to the warm weather and rain from 1pm to 8pm yesterday. Approximately 30,000 Caps fans and 40,000 Pens fans converged at Heinz Field for what was to be the most exciting game of the year, and the game did not disappoint. The time change seemed to help, the overall TV ratings were reportedly up by 8%. The first period the Pens started out hot with goal tender Marc-Andre Fleury stopping all 20 shots and getting an assist on Evgeni Malkin goal. This would be the only goal for Pittsburgh on New Years day. Mike Knuble answered with the first goal for the Caps in the second period. The real star of the day was Eric Fehr. He picked a high profile game to let the world know that he is a force to be reckoned with scoring both of Washington’s other goals to make the final score 3-1 Caps. This was such an important win for the Capitals. They emerge victorious, the month long HBO special, that didn’t start out well, ended with the big win in front of millions of hockey fans worldwide. Not only did the Capitals steal the Winter Classic title from the Pens in their own backyard…literally, but they also presented themselves as a team that doesn’t need to rely on their star player to win games. People are thinking this could be the year for the Caps to bring home the coveted Stanley Cup that has eluded our Nations Capital to date.

One of the best parts about the Winter Classic is the nostalgia of playing hockey outside in the elements where hockey originated. And what old time hockey game would be complete without two bruisers squaring off and dropping the gloves. In a fight that will be carried on hockey channels for years John Erskine unleashed the fury with Pittsburgh’s Michael Rupp. These two hockey players fought it out old school style, blow by blow. At one point it looked like Rupp had the upper hand as Erskine lost his footing. The seasoned Capitals veteran regained his balance and landed some massive blows to the Penguins center. The fight ended in a draw as the two exhausted players were subdued by the officials and the game continued to the applause of the crowd. This is real raw hockey.

The word has trickled down from Ted Leonsis that the most exciting game in hockey, the NHL Winter Classic, will come to Washington, DC in the next two to three years. Places being considered for hosting the event are Nationals Park, Fedex Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Camden Yards and RFK Stadium. Nationals Park seems to be the favorite candidate with M&T Bank Stadium as a viable option possibly increasing the Capitals fan base. National Park holds 41,000 fans, RFK Stadium holds 46,000, Camden Yards holds 48,000 M&T Bank Stadium holds 71,000 and Fedex holds 91,000. Caps fans have been trying hard to BRING THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC TO DC and it looks like we may get our wish.
